Tuesday, May 4: be with you

May the Force be with you.
— Everyone/Anonymous

Today is Star Wars day—May the Fourth be with you, get it? I was looking up quotes from “Star Wars” and most of the quote sites I found essentially referenced the entire screenplay—almost every word in the film is quotable. Not because it’s all insightful, though sometimes it is:

“Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”

And not because the dialog is cringe-inducing, but it can be that, too.

“You look absolutely beautiful. You truly belong here with us among the clouds.”

But because it is so familiar. There is rarely an occasion in life for which a quote from “Star Wars” is not appropriate and at hand.

For your wedding ceremony:

“I love you.”
”I know.”

On your first day at a new school/job:

“Do or do not, there is no try.”

When you don’t want to go to work, when someone drank your last Coke, when you logged in to pay your credit card and the deadline was yesterday:

“Noooooo!” (accompanied by a dramatic fall)

I am not sure when this “holiday” came into being—I’ll Google it sometime—but I’m kind of digging it right now. It’s a chance to connect through a celebration that knows no religious, national, or geographical boundaries. (Well, I am sure there is someone who is offended by it, and I actually know a 50+-year-old adult who never saw “The Empire Strikes Back”, but I can’t be bothered with them right now.) Find your quote today. Drop it into casual conversation or type it in the chat during that unavoidable Zoom meeting. Remember, the Force will be with you, always.
