Mayday, mayday, (may day)

In May of 2020, in the early days of the pandemic, I wrote my first May Day blog. It appeared on May 1st—May Day—and anticipated a lost summer. I learned in writing that blog, that in order to signal distress and not just note the first of the month, one must say “mayday” three times.

That was one.

On May 1, 2021, I launched my first month-long May Days series which looked at May’s days through the lens of Gary Goldschneider’s giant tome, “The Secret Language of Birthdays” and started with a blog about irony and insight.

That’s two.

Now it’s May Day 2022, and I am back with the start of another month-long birthday blog series.

And there’s three.

And, yes, I am asking for help.

It’s not that my ship is sinking, but, to paraphrase the poet Stevie Smith, I’m waving and perhaps a little bit drowning.

As May breaks, I head into a month of epic opportunity, profound uncertainty, and ambitious change. Today’s gift to myself is a notebook—yes, don’t worry, not a new one—but rather a repurposed, intentional space for the month in which I attend to all the help I receive from just asking.

What can you share that will help me? I am taking notes.
