The Coffee Shoulds
Perhaps you’ve heard this little pun which reminds us that spending time regretting inaction, worrying about missed opportunities, and steeping in regret will end up a stinky mess.
So, just in case you need something more concrete, here is my stinky mess from February:
I should have:
shared my co-rise announcement (starts 3/11 bc it’s week 11 and that makes a kind of 11/11)
started my Book of Sundays project (been trying to get this underway for over a year--why??)
shared this blog link https://optimisticmusings.com/category/year-of-shmita/ which has inspired me to learn to treat Sundays as rest days
written a blog post about Feb 29 & Leap Day (24 extra hours this year/4min a day--what will you do with this time?)
written a blog post about consolidating notebooks (fragmentation/not allowing connections/avoiding recording bc just don’t have the right notebook OR record and forgot where I wrote info down)
written a blog post about starting a yoga training course (not teacher training) and doing headstands (which I am very close to having done).
written a blog post about Lent (perhaps started a series of some sort)/phone phast (ha--so clever)
written a blog post about my WOTY (Allow)
written a blog post about Feb’s 13HN metaphor (Garnet/self-acceptance) & reflection (March is snake=rejecting poison)
written a blog post about the third new year of 2024 (Jan 1--obvs/Feb 10--lunar new year/March 19--astrological new year & first day of spring. It makes way more sense to start a new year in spring than in the dead of winter).
written a blog post about my rest project inspired by the above blog (Shmita) post, this article (wash post) and this article (NYT)
written a poem about something (but I am not supposed to say about--on the occasion of something)
discussed ANY of the new books I bought in the last few months (and a few I even read).
But instead, I chose not to allow myself the time to do any of this. Instead, I only thought about writing these posts or perhaps I even got as far as taking notes on ideas for these. But where did I put those notes?
Now that I have this pile of should in front of me, I need to start shoveling. Or, to extend the metaphor into the season, this March I’m using all this should to fertilize a garden of…done?
